1 Dead, Older Woman Hospitalized Following Mobile Home Fire in Pomona; Homicide Investigation Underway, Son Arrested

POMONA, Calif., Oct. 9 (KNN) — One person has died, and an older woman was hospitalized after a fire erupted at a mobile home in Pomona late Tuesday night, prompting an arson and homicide investigation.

The Pomona Police Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department received multiple 911 calls regarding a mobile home on fire in the 1700 block of East Mission Boulevard.

Once officers and firefighters arrived at the scene, they located a mobile home at the rear of the complex with heavy smoke and fire showing and spreading to other mobile homes.

Pomona PD and LACoFD received additional 911 calls regarding two older people possibly trapped inside one of the mobile homes. An older female was able to escape the fire.

The female was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital with burns to her face and hands. A second victim, a possible older male, was pronounced deceased at the scene by firefighters.

LACoFD requested an arson team respond to the scene and assist in investigating the fatal mobile home fire. Homicide investigators with the Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit responded and began an extensive investigation.

In a further update Wednesday morning, Pomona Police Department PIO Aly Mejia told KNN that the son was arrested early Wednesday morning near West Holt Avenue and White Avenue in the city of Pomona. He was identified as 44-year-old Luciano Macias of Pomona.

Additional information is due to be released on Thursday, Oct. 10, regarding this incident.

Family members started to arrive at the scene.
