1 Killed, 1 Wounded in Car-to-Car Freeway Shooting

COSTA MESA, CA, Aug. 2 (KNN) — One person was killed, another injured in an apparent car-to-car freeway shooting overnight.

The California Highway Patrol’s Baldwin Park office received a call from Costa Mesa Police Department and Santa Ana CHP around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday regarding a car-to-car fatal shooting that may possibly be related to the shooting on the 57 Freeway and 60 Freeway that struck a pickup truck in the city of Diamond Bar late Tuesday night.

Costa Mesa Police Department and Santa Ana CHP received a 911 call regarding two gunshot victims inside a white vehicle on the 1900 block of Church Street near Walnut Street in Costa Mesa. The CHP has determined that a white Hyundai Sonata was also struck by gunfire on the southbound 57 Freeway in Diamond Bar but continued to drive after the shooting before coming to a stop on Church Street and contacting authorities.

One male located in the rear seat of the Sonata was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the CHP, and one female victim was transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

CHP officers from the Baldwin Park office were at the scene and assisting Costa Mesa police officers and Santa Ana CHP with the investigation into the two shootings.

It is unknown at this time if Costa Mesa police or CHP has anyone in custody.

The CHP or Costa Mesa Police Department has not released any further information regarding the incidents due to the ongoing investigations.
