1 Killed in 5 Freeway 2-Vehicle Collision

Castaic, Los Angeles County, CA: One person was killed in a two-vehicle traffic collision on the Northbound 5 Freeway in the Castaic area of Los Angeles County on Tuesday night, Feb. 22, 2022.

California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a traffic collision that occurred around 10:11 p.m. on the Northbound 5 Freeway just south of State Route 126.

Arriving units on the scene found one person deceased and another who walked away uninjured.

Sergeant Eric Aquillar with California Highway Patrol said in his interview with Key News Network at the scene that one of the parties in the traffic crash did succumb to their injuries. Aguillar also said the collision occurred just north of an active construction zone. The cones at the scene were utilized to extend the zone after the crash had happened.

Traffic was diverted to one lane after the incident.

CHP is investigating the collision.
