1 Killed in Traffic Collision Involving School Bus

BAKERSFIELD, CA, Aug. 25 (KNN) — A traffic collision involving a vehicle and school bus left one person dead in the aftermath Thursday evening in Bakersfield.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a collision involving a school bus shortly after 6:30 p.m. on South Mount Vernon Avenue near East Planz Road.

CHP officers arrived at the scene to find a Kern High School District bus with heavy damage and a mangled vehicle off to the side of the roadway.

One person was pronounced deceased at the scene who was not on the school bus.

The CHP initially reported the injuries to students and the bus driver were minor to moderate.

By 7:30 p.m. the coroner arrived at the scene to collect the unidentified deceased individual.

CHP had closed the intersection to northbound and southbound traffic at Belle, and also Mount Vernon at Planz for the investigation and eventual clearing of the scene of the crash.

The cause of the collision is unknown at this time.
