ARCADIA, LOS ANGELES, Apr. 8 (KNN) — One person was found deceased in an apartment house fire in the city of Arcadia Sunday night.
The Arcadia Fire Department along with crews from Monrovia Fire & Rescue and the Sierra Madre Fire Department responded to calls around 9:18 p.m. of an apartment house fire located on Genoa Street near South Santa Anita Avenue.
Firefighters from an AFD Station located just five houses down from the reported fire, responded to the scene within seconds.
Once firefighters made entry into one of the apartment units, they encountered heavy smoke and discovered a deceased person in a bathroom which was the location of the main portion of the fire, according to AFD Battalion Chief Charles Tuggle.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire within 15 minutes of arrival and confirmed no further extension into adjacent units, said Tuggle.
Firefighters removed the body from the residence and paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The cause of death and the victim’s identification will be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Arcadia Police Department and the AFD’s Fire Investigations Unit are currently investigating the cause and nature of the fire, reported the AFD.
