SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif., May 27 (KNN) — Firefighters discovered a body inside a burned commercial building after battling the blaze consuming the structure late Sunday night.
Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to a commercial building fire at approximately 11:23 p.m. in the 10100 block of Rush Street in the city of South El Monte.
Once firefighters arrived at the scene, they located a commercial building with heavy smoke and fire showing. Firefighters initially attempted to battle the flames offensively, but were forced to retreat and fight the fire defensively (exterior attack only) due to heavy smoke and fire.
Firefighters remained at the scene after knockdown to douse any hot spots and search the interior of the structure. At just before 2 a.m. Monday morning, firefighters discovered a body inside the burned building. The deceased had not yet been identified at the time of this report.
The cause of the fire is not currently known and under investigation.
