The Los Angeles County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol’s West Valley officers responded to reports of a vehicle over the side at approximately 12:23 a.m. Friday in the 2300 block of Las Flores Canyon Road in Malibu.

When first responders arrived on scene, they located a vehicle approximately 100 feet down a hillside embankment with two patients inside.

At least one of the patients was reported to be in critical condition.

Both patients were airlifted by LACoFD Air Ops to a trauma center.

Additional people at the scene who were reportedly bystanders, were possibly the ones who reported the incident to authorities and were seen down by the crashed vehicle attempting to help firefighters.

The first injured patient wrapped for transport to the overhead helicopter began spinning in the air about halfway up from the hillside before the patient was lowered back down to the ground for a second attempt which proved successful. The second patient was accompanied by a firefighter as they were both airlifted from the ground to the hovering helicopter.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

There are no further details at this time.
