Huntington Beach police officers and fire department paramedics responded to Beach Boulevard and Edwards Street shortly after 10:15 p.m. regarding a two-vehicle traffic collision.

Firefighters first on scene reported one vehicle overturned and the other into a pole with at least four people injured in the crash.

It appears that a family in a Toyota RAV4 SUV was pulling out onto Beach Boulevard when a tan color older model SUV slammed into them, overturning the RAV4 and sending the other SUV into a pole. The older SUV briefly caught fire but was quickly extinguished by fire department personnel.

Fire officials transported at least three people from the overturned SUV to area hospitals and trauma centers for further assessment. It is unclear if the driver from the SUV that caught fire remained on scene.

All lanes of Beach Boulevard were shut down at the intersection until at least 12:15 a.m. as officers investigated what led to the collision.
