DOWNEY, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, June 24 (KNN) – Four people lost their lives early Saturday morning in a solo vehicle freeway crash involving fire in the city of Downey.
The Downey Fire Department and California Highway Patrol responded to a reported crash around 2:38 a.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway, just west of the 605 Freeway, and located one vehicle with major damage and two bodies that appeared to have been ejected from the vehicle.
Firefighters pronounced a total of four victims deceased at the scene of the violent crash which split the vehicle in half.
The vehicle was traveling southbound when it crashed into a guardrail, rolled several times and started to catch fire.
Downey firefighters extinguished the burning vehicle along with a small brush fire that erupted on the wall where the vehicle had crashed.
All southbound freeway lanes were closed for an unknown period of time as CHP conducted their investigation into the cause of the crash.
