BRENTWOOD, LOS ANGELES, July 11 (KNN) — A motorist traveling in the wrong direction of traffic on the 405 Freeway early Thursday morning, collided with another vehicle leaving one person trapped and injured.
The collision occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway at Getty Center Drive. A vehicle was traveling northbound in southbound lanes when it struck another vehicle apparently head-on in the carpool lane. One person became trapped inside their vehicle as a result of the crash with the wrong way driver.
California Highway Patrol officers arrived at the scene and immediately shut down all lanes of traffic. Arriving Los Angeles Fire Department personnel attended to the trapped individual inside a pickup truck.
The patient was freed from the pickup truck, placed in a neck brace by firefighters, and loaded into an ambulance to be transported to a local hospital. The patient’s condition was not immediately known.
A truck driver who was traveling on the 405 at the 10 Freeway told KNN on camera that he saw the driver driving the wrong way in the carpool lane. He said that he moved to the right side of the freeway as soon as he saw the vehicle and immediately called 911.
It is not known at this time how the vehicle ended up traveling northbound in southbound lanes of traffic on the 405 Freeway.
