SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 20 (KNN) — Multiple Orange County firefighters were injured in a major solo-vehicle rollover crash Thursday evening.
The Orange County Fire Authority and California Highway Patrol officers responded to a traffic collision at 6:50 p.m. in which an Orange County Fire Authority fire truck, occupied by a brush fire crew, rolled over on the freeway.
According to the CHP, the fire crew was traveling northbound on State Route 241 toll road near the Portola Parkway exit when the fire truck swerved to avoid hitting a metal ladder in the lanes. The truck then hit the guard rail and overturned.
A total of eight OCFA hand crews were injured: Six with major injuries and two with moderate injuries from the crash. This incident is currently under investigation by CHP and the Orange County Fire Authority.
The crew had just finished their 12-hour shift on the “Airport Fire,” according to the OCFA.
