Driver Rescued From Vehicle After Crashing Off Roadway, Down Into Steep Canyon Terrain

BIG TUJUNGA CANYON, CA, Sept. 7 (KNN) — A driver was rescued after his vehicle plummeted down steep canyon terrain late Wednesday night in Big Tujunga Canyon.

The crash was reported just before midnight at Big Tujunga Canyon and Vogel Flats Road.

California Highway Patrol officers, sheriff’s deputies, the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s ground and air resources were all dispatched to the location for a vehicle over the side of a cliff.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they located one truck that had plummeted approximately 300 or more feet off the side of Big Tujunga Canyon.

Firefighters hiked down the mountainside and reached the driver who was trapped inside his vehicle. They broke a window out of the truck and freed the driver.

The driver, miraculously, was uninjured and assisted by firefighters to the top of the hillside.

Firefighters transported the victim to a local hospital for a full examination. The incident was concluded within one hour from time of call to time of rescue.

CHP is handling the investigation.
