The incident took place on Via Beguine in the city of Santa Clarita’s Valencia area as neighbors tried to corral the tortoise to safety.

Crews from Los Angeles County Fire Station 73 responded to the scene and located the more than 100 pound animal.

The crew comprised of an engine company and a paramedic squad corralled the turtle and carried it to its home after locating the owner.

They were originally going to secure the animal at a nearby veterinarian’s office, but located the owner just in time.

Apparently the turtle made a successful escape after a side gate was left ajar.
