Man Barricades After Discharging Firearm in Front Yard of Home

BAKERSFIELD, CA, Sept. 14 (KNN) — The Bakersfield Police Department took a man into custody Wednesday night after a barricade situation with the suspect who was shooting a firearm in the front yard of his residence,

At approximately 8:20 p.m., Bakersfield PD received a ShotSpotter gunfire activation in the 300 block of South Haley Drive, according to Sgt. Andrew Tipton in a BPD press release of the incident. Several spent shell casings were found in the front yard of a home at the location.

A surveillance video was located which depicted the tenant, Joshua Juarez, 33, negligently shooting a firearm in the font yard of his residence, according to Sgt. Tipton.

Juarez proceeded to barricade inside the home as seen in Key News Network video from the location, prompting officers at the scene to request additional resources.

Around 10 p.m., after numerous call outs by officers to Juarez, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined no victims were struck by the negligent gunfire, stated Bakersfield PD.

According to the department, Juarez was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail for willfully discharging a firearm in a negligent manner.
