Barricaded Man Sprays WD-40 at LAPD SWAT Prompting Tear Gas Response

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5 (KNN) — The Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood and Metropolitan Division officers were in a standoff with a man holed up in a makeshift dwelling behind a residence in the 6800 block of West Leland Way late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Per a witness off camera, the incident stemmed from a dispute the suspect had with a nearby barber shop in Hollywood where the occupants believed he was brandishing a knife or stick.

When officers contacted the suspect, he refused to exit his domicile prompting a response from LAPD SWAT.

At several points during the standoff, the suspect sprayed WD-40 in the direction of officers.

The suspect surrendered without further incident after the deployment of several tear gas canisters.

No injuries were reported.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear.
