JURUPA VALLEY, CA, Oct. 30 (KNN) — Strong winds compromised a utility pole on a busy street in the city of Jurupa Valley in Riverside County prompting a closure that snarled traffic in the area.

Wind gusts snapped a pole shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon potentially causing a danger to motorists. The power lines cross Van Buren Boulevard which is a heavily traveled street by Riverside residents.
Riverside County Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the location. Due to the broken utility pole, Van Buren was shut down in both directions from Van Buren at Limonite to Van Buren at 56th Street.
The road closure caused heavy traffic delays in both directions and on the surrounding streets.
The utility company was contacted to respond to the location.
Van Buren was closed for an unknown duration as crews worked to secure the pole and reopen the boulevard.
