The crash occurred at 2:21 a.m. in the 15000 block of West Ventura Boulevard in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. A single vehicle slammed head-on into a hydrant and a tree, completely shearing the hydrant which immediately caused an eruption of gushing water at least 15 stories high.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews successfully shut off the flow of water to the sheared hydrant.

The condition of the driver was not immediately known and if there were any other occupants in the car at the time of the crash.

Key News Network video from the scene shows the vehicle’s wrecked front end up against a tree.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision.
