2 Deputies Injured in 5 Freeway Collision Involving Big Rig in Santa Clarita

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., Feb. 20 (KNN) — Two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies were injured in a traffic collision involving a big rig on the 5 Freeway in the Valencia area of Santa Clarita Monday evening.

The collision was reported at 8:57 p.m. Monday on the southbound 5 Freeway at the Rye Canyon on-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Los Angeles sheriff deputies, CHP officers, American Rescue Ambulance and the Los Angeles County Fire Department all responded to the scene where two deputies were found involved in a traffic collision with a big rig.

Both deputies were transported by ambulance to the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, the CHP told Key News Network. At the time of transport, their injuries were considered minor.

Details regarding the traffic collision itself are unknown at this time, according to the CHP.

All lanes of the 5 Freeway in the area of the crash were briefly shut down. The on-ramp at Rye Canyon was closed for an unknown duration of time.
