The California Highway Patrol received a 911 call around 3:38 a.m. from an employee stating that his boss’s work truck was stolen at the park-and-ride at Via Verde and the 57 Freeway and his boss was in the bed of the truck.

The suspect entered the southbound 57 Freeway to the eastbound 10 Freeway into the city of Pomona, with the employee following the stolen work truck while on the phone with the CHP dispatcher.

The suspect eventually exited at White Avenue from the eastbound 10 Freeway. He then traveled southbound on White Avenue where he crashed the truck into an Edison pole and into a fence at South White Avenue and West Mission Boulevard.

The victim was able to jump out of the bed of the truck and run to safety as CHP officers arrived on scene.

The suspect attempted to flee again, but the truck was disabled. The suspect, along with his dog, were taken into custody at the scene.

The victim said that the suspect needed a jumpstart, and that’s when the suspect jumped into the work truck.

The victim told Key News Network that he had hopped into the bed immediately after the suspect got into the truck and locked the door.

The owner of the truck did not initially appear to be physically injured. It is unknown if the victim was subsequently assessed for injuries.
