Menifee Patrol Vehicle Involved in Traffic Collision, Officer Hospitalized

MENIFEE, Calif., Mar. 18 (KNN) — A Menifee police officer on the way to assist another officer was injured in a traffic collision with a pickup truck late Sunday evening.

The incident occurred around 9:37 p.m. when the officer was traveling westbound on Holland Road approaching the signal-controlled intersection of Menifee Road with their emergency lights and sirens activated, according to the Menifee PD news release of the incident.

“Prior to entering the intersection, the light for westbound Holland Road was red. As the officer was traveling through the intersection, their patrol vehicle collided with a pickup truck traveling south on Menifee Road,” stated the release.

The driver of the pickup truck and police officer were both the sole occupants of their vehicles and sustained non-life-threatening injuries., according to the Menifee PD. They were both transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

The driver of the pickup truck has been released from the hospital, however, the officer is in stable condition and is expected to be released from the hospital in the coming days and make a full recovery, reported the Menifee PD.

The original intent of the officer involved in the traffic collision was to assist another officer with a traffic stop associated with an individual suspected of an assault with a deadly weapon. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department helicopter in the area assisted with the traffic stop near Holland and Palomar roads.

“Upon completing the ‘assault with a deadly weapon’ investigation, a report was taken and will be
submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for a misdemeanor violation of Penal Code 246.3 (b), gross
negligent discharge of a BB Device,” the news release stated,

The collision remains under investigation.
