Shortly before 2 a.m. Monday, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to an alarm activation at a jewelry store in the 9900 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard.

When LAPD arrived at the location, they found the store owner exiting the building who told officers that somebody was tunneling into his business trying to burglarize it. The owner was working in the back of the store at the time the incident occurred.

The burglar cut through a fence, opened a side door to the building, smashed through a cinder block wall and then went through two other businesses to finally access the jewelry store housed in a strip mall.

LAPD officers recovered a prying tool from the location.

The LAPD declined an on-camera interview at the scene, but stated that the watch commander was informed of the incident.

Officer Miller with LAPD’s Media Relations Division said property was taken from the jewelry store, but what exactly was stolen is unknown at this time.

Miller said the suspect was only described as a 5’5″ tall male wearing all black clothing who exited the building.

There are no further details.
