WEST COVINA, Calif., Apr. 10 (KNN) — A barricaded suspect in a standoff with the West Covina Police Department allegedly set fire to a home in the city of West Covina late Tuesday night.
The suspect barricaded inside a residence in the 2600 block of Evelyn Avenue just before 10 p.m. The suspect was reportedly still inside the home when heavy white smoke was observed coming from inside the residence. West Covina PD is clearly heard on KNN video from the scene urging the suspect to exit the residence.
West Covina PD started evacuating nearby residences due to the standoff situation. After about 30 to 45 minutes, the house was fully engulfed in flames.
It is unknown at this time if the suspect was still inside the residence as it burned.
West Covina firefighters were battling the flames from nearby rooftops of neighbors’ houses.
Henry, a resident in the area, spoke on-camera with KNN and said it’s a safe neighborhood overall and nothing like this has ever happened.
West Covina PD has not yet released any other details regarding the barricaded suspect.
