ROSAMOND, Calif., Apr. 23 (KNN) — Kern County firefighters discovered a deceased person after battling a blaze that consumed a house in the unincorporated community of Rosamond.
At approximately 7:18 p.m., Monday, the Kern County Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on the 2500 block of Cold Creek Avenue.
According to the KCFD, Rosamond Engine 15 was out in the area due to a prior incident in Mojave. The newly staffed Medic Squad 15 with two firefighters was fortunately available to respond along with Reserve Engine 415.
Upon their arrival, they found a single-story house with heavy fire and smoke coming from the windows on the front and side of the structure. The fire had already vented through the roof reaching skyward from inside the house, reported Fire Information Officer Jon Drucker with the KCFD.
An immediate fire attack ensued as an electrical panel was arcing and flames had already consumed approximately 75% of the home.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to lend support in the battle of the 2-Alarm fire.
Vehicles parked in the driveway of the burning home indicated the potential of victims inside the home. Drucker reported that though the structure’s strength was compromised and there was a partial roof collapse, firefighters fought to search inside for victims. Unfortunately, an individual was found deceased in the living room area. No other victims were located.
“The Kern County Sheriff Coroner’s Office and Kern County Fire Investigation Unit were requested to the incident. Firefighters remained on scene until 100% extinguishment was achieved,” said Drucker.
The crew of 36 firefighters also managed to keep the flames from extending to nearby structures.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
