SOUTH LOS ANGELES, May 3 (KNN) — At least one person has died as a result of a fiery traffic collision late Thursday night on the 105 Freeway in the Athens area within South Los Angeles.
A CHP West Los Angeles patrol unit observed a stalled vehicle in the number 1 lane of traffic on the westbound 105 Freeway just west of Normandie Avenue at approximately 10:45 p.m. The unit turned around to run a traffic break for the stalled vehicle when about a minute later, CHP dispatch advised the officers that the stalled vehicle had been involved in a traffic crash and was fully engulfed in flames, according to the CHP news release of the incident.
A preliminary investigation determined that the stalled 2004 Toyota Matrix was struck in the number 1 lane by a 2018 black Infiniti Q60. The driver of that vehicle remained at the scene for the arrival of CHP and was treated for minor injuries by LACoFD paramedics.
The driver of the Toyota Matrix sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at 11 p.m. at the scene, the news release stated.
A SigAlert was in place by 11 p.m. for closure of all westbound lanes in the area of the crash.
