GRANADA HILLS, LOS ANGELES, May 9 (KNN) — A crash involving two semi trucks and fire on the 5 Freeway Wednesday afternoon, left a semi driver critically injured.
The crash occurred around 12:17 p.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway, north of the 405 transition, in the Granada Hills area.
One of the two semis involved in the collision erupted into flames prompting a response from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that one male driver successfully escaped his burning cab and passing motorists stopped to help extinguish the flames on his clothes and body. He was transported by rescue ambulance to a local trauma center with critical burns, according to the LAFD.
No other injuries or patients were reported. The other semi-trailer was parked on the shoulder, unoccupied, at the time of the collision, reported the LAFD.
It took 38 minutes for 80 LAFD firefighters to confine and extinguish the flames.
