Suspected Shooter Arrested After Firing Shots at Passing Vehicles in San Jacinto; 1 Dead, 1 Injured

SAN JACINTO, Calif., June 4 (KNN) — One person was fatally shot, another wounded when a suspected shooter fired multiple rounds at passing vehicles in an area of the city of San Jacinto early Monday morning.

San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the area of West Seventh Street and South San Jacinto Street shortly after 7 a.m. regarding a male shooting at passing vehicles, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in a press release of the incident.

Multiple vehicles were struck by gunfire and two people were found to have been shot, stated the press release. The two gunshot victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

“Despite lifesaving measures, one of the victims was pronounced deceased,” reported the sheriff’s department.

The area was immediately secured and closed off to all vehicle and foot traffic. Investigators from San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, Central Homicide Unit, and the Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau were notified and responded to the scene, according to the press release. Investigators from the Central Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation.

Homicide investigators notified the next of kin of the deceased who has been identified by the department as 42-year-old Victor Hugo Leon, a resident of San Jacinto.

“During the course of this investigation, Julio Cesar Rodarte, a 39-year-old resident of San Jacinto, was arrested and booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility for murder and ten counts of attempted murder,” stated the press release.

This investigation is still ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time. There are no outstanding suspects sought in this investigation.
