Pomona Police Shoot Armed Man Following Shots Fired at Officers

POMONA, Calif., June 6 (KNN) — An armed man shot at Pomona police officers Wednesday night resulting in a police shooting that wounded the subject.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., officers with the Pomona PD responded to the 1400 block of West Ninth Street for a person with a gun call. Upon arrival, officers entered the mobile home trailer park and encountered a male armed with a firearm. The male fired at the officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred, according to a lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau.

The man was wounded, transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition. No officers were injured during this incident.

The Pomona PD reported that a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Rene, a witness to the incident, spoke to Key News Network and said he saw the man screaming way before the shooting happened. The man appeared to be angry about an incident regarding a broken window.

Rene said he and his girlfriend approached the man to make sure he was ok, The man then became verbally confrontational asking Rene “you got a problem?” Rene responded that he was just checking up on him.

The 911 call was made by Rene and his girlfriend after they heard a shot fired. Rene said the police arrived quickly to the scene as he remained on the phone. He also added that the man did not want to comply with police, and then he heard shots fired.

The LASD has assumed the investigation, according to the Pomona PD. There is no further information at this time.
