Shortly after midnight, Pomona police officers received a call of a person with a gun at a motel in the 900 block of Holt Avenue in the city of Pomona.

Officers responded to the scene and within several minutes, saw a suspect that matched the description of the person armed with a gun. They encountered the person and as he fled southbound on Hamilton Boulevard, the suspect produced a firearm in the 400 block and an officer-involved shooting occurred, according to Lieutenant Michael Modica with the LASD’s Homicide Bureau who briefed news media near the scene.

Modica said that it is believed the suspect did shoot at the officers, but that is not confirmed.

During the preliminary investigation, there was no indication that there was a robbery, only that someone called who said they saw a person with a gun at the reported location.

The male suspect was treated at the scene by responding firefighters, then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to Modica.

A news release from the LASD’s Information Bureau reported a firearm was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured.

Video obtained with permission by KNN at the scene, shows the location of the shooting along with the sounds of gunfire.
