Man Shot by Police During Foot Pursuit After Brandishing Firearm at Long Beach Metro Rail Station

LONG BEACH, Calif., Aug 8 (KNN) — A man reported to be brandishing a firearm at a Metro Rail Station in Long Beach, was shot and injured by police during a foot pursuit Wednesday evening.

At approximately 9:10 p.m., officers responded to multiple reports of a man brandishing a firearm on the Metro Rail platform at West 5th Street and Pacific Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspect who immediately exited the platform and fled on foot. A foot pursuit ensued and during the pursuit, an officer-involved shooting occurred, according to the preliminary investigation by the LBPD into the shooting.

Officers rendered medical aid to the suspect and requested Long Beach Fire Department paramedics to respond to the scene.

“The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his upper body,” said the LBPD in a statement on their website regarding the incident. “The suspect was medically cleared and transported to the Long Beach City Jail for booking.”

The LBPD reported that a replica firearm was recovered at the scene.

No officers were injured and no other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
