Multi-Vehicle Fatal Crash Involves DOT Vehicle, Motorcycle on 170 Freeway in North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES, Aug. 18 (KNN) — A traffic collision involving two vehicles and a motorcycle left one female motorcyclist dead, and two people injured on the 170 Freeway late Friday night.

California Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to a multi-vehicle traffic collision shortly before midnight on the northbound 170 Freeway, south of Sherman Way in the North Hollywood area.

A motorcycle with a passenger, a 2017 Honda Civic and a Department of Transportation (DOT) Toyota Prius were all involved in a freeway collision. Initial CHP information indicated that a compact silver sedan was involved in a collision with a motorcycle. The DOT vehicle was damaged, but it is unclear what that vehicle hit.

A possible passenger motorcycle helmet was seen near the DOT vehicle.

A female on the 2011 Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle was ejected onto the roadway and was later pronounced deceased by LAFD personnel at the scene, according to the CHP news release of the incident. The identity of the deceased was not immediately released.

Another person from the motorcycle, a 35-year-old male, was transported with major injuries to Providence Holy Cross Hospital by LAFD paramedics. It was not immediately clear from the CHP news release if the fatally injured female was the motorcycle driver or passenger, as they were both listed as “motorcyclist.”

A 27-year-old female passenger in the the Honda Civic was transported with minor injuries to Providence St. Joseph Hospital. The 34-year-old male driver of the Honda was uninjured and not transported as well as the 29-year-old male driver of the Prius, according to the news release.

A DOT supervisor was also at scene. The HOV and number 1 lane were opened as of 1:12 a.m. Saturday.

This fatal incident is pending further investigation by the CHP.
