Students Safe After Pursuit Suspect Crashes, Flees Onto Cal State University Northridge Campus

NORTHRIDGE, LOS ANGELES, Sept. 27 (KNN) — A robbery suspect crashed with another vehicle after leading police on a chase and foot-bailed onto the campus of California State University Northridge.

Before 10:30 a.m., Thursday, police officers were investigating a known robbery suspect who fled in a stolen black SUV when officers attempted to make a stop on the vehicle. Undercover Los Angeles Police Department units tracked the suspect while marked vehicles initiated a traffic stop, leading to a pursuit.

The chase ended at the intersection of Halsted and Lindley Avenue, where the suspect collided with an uninvolved vehicle, causing it to crash into a fire hydrant. The impact sent water shooting into the air.

The suspect fled on foot, running southbound onto the CSUN campus, where a volleyball team was practicing. He entered Matador Hall and briefly attempted to blend in by sitting at an employee’s cubicle, according to police. Officers quickly apprehended him without further incident. A second suspect fled the scene and was later caught and transported to a hospital.

The driver of the uninvolved vehicle, a female believed to be a student, sustained unknown injuries and was also taken to a local hospital. Students reported feeling scared and frantic during the incident but praised the police for quickly securing the area.
