LA VERNE, Calif., Oct. 16 (KNN) — A violent crash into a semi left a van sliced and peeled open like a can, exposing the mangled interior while the driver’s side was relatively unscathed, allowing the driver to escape the wreckage.
California Highway Patrol officers and the La Verne Fire Department responded to a traffic collision in which one person was trapped around 3:39 a.m., Wednesday, on the westbound 210 Freeway at Fruit Street in the city of La Verne.
Once firefighters and CHP officers arrived at the scene, they located a van that had struck a parked semi-trailer on the right shoulder, causing the van to split in half. The driver of the van was able to exit the vehicle safely and was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.
The semi driver was not hurt. CHP closed the on-ramp at Fruit Street to the westbound 210 and the number three and four lanes.
A Sig Alert was issued for the westbound 210 Freeway at Fruit Street.
