Small Plane Crashes at Pomona Fairplex Near Drag Strip; 4 Hospitalized

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 17 (KNN) — A single-engine airplane crashed near the drag strip at the Pomona Fairplex, striking a few vehicles before ultimately hitting the ground, injuring all four people onboard late Sunday morning.

Los Angeles County firefighters, who were already at the location in the 1100 block of West McKinley Avenue for the NHRA drag races, called in the incident shortly after 11 a.m.

At a briefing, Engineer Jonathan Torres, a public information officer for the Los Angeles County Fire Department, said that units rendered lifesaving emergency medical services and mitigated any fire potential from the surrounding vehicles, generators, and other such items.

Four people on the plane were injured and transported to a local hospital; two patients are in critical condition, and two suffered moderate injuries, reported Torres. No one on the ground was injured.

A Hazmat response was initiated, and the NTSB and the FAA were also notified of the crash. The incident is currently under investigation.
