COMMERCE, Calif., Nov. 30 (KNN) — A traffic collision involving a Jeep SUV early Saturday morning resulted in extensive damage and significant lane closures on the southbound I-5 Freeway near the I-710 interchange, authorities said.
The crash caused a light pole to fall, approximately 20 feet of damage to a retaining wall, and the loss of a road sign indicating “Commerce Next 5 Exits.”
Emergency responders, including the California Highway Patrol, LA County Fire, and Caltrans, were dispatched to the scene. A hard closure was implemented, halting all southbound lanes at the I-710 interchange as crews worked to address the damage and assist victims.
A Sig Alert was issued for the area, with authorities estimating a two-hour closure. Traffic was diverted onto the southbound I-710 during the incident. Navarro’s Towing was called to remove the damaged Jeep SUV, which required an evidence tow.
LA County Fire and private ambulances transported two victims in unknown condition to local area hospital(s). There are reports the vehicle traveled at a high speed before the solo vehicle crash. A third possible victim was evaluated and released at the scene.
Crews estimated a 45-minute arrival time to begin repairs on the damaged infrastructure. No injuries or additional details about the collision were immediately available.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
