Big Rig Driver Trapped in Rollover Crash on Freeway in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Jan. 18 (KNN) — The driver of a big rig with two trailers was trapped inside the truck after a rollover crash on a freeway transition road in Bakersfield.

According to Battalion Chief Mike Lencioni, Bakersfield Fire units responded to a big rig rollover on the transition from westbound Highway 58 to southbound 99 around 3:22 p.m. Saturday.

A male patient was discovered pinned inside the truck and unconscious. BFD crews used rescue tools to peel back the truck’s roof and extricate the patient.

The patient was transported to Kern Medical with moderate to major injuries, according to Lencioni.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
