LAPD Involved in Shooting at Female Suspect Advancing Toward Officers With Large Metal Grate in Baldwin Hills

BALDWIN HILLS/CRENSHAW, LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20 (KNN) — The Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division was involved in a shooting after attempting non-lethal force on an advancing suspect in possession of a metal grate late Monday night, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded when LAPD officers responded to a vandalism call around 11:50 p.m. in the 3900 block of Ursula Avenue in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw neighborhood.

According to the LAPD, officers were told that a suspect had broken several windows in an apartment complex, and they were directed to an unoccupied apartment where the female suspect was located.

The officers encountered the suspect holding a large metal grate over her head and advanced toward officers, according to the LAPD.

“An officer deployed a TASER but it was ineffective and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” reported the LAPD PIO on X. The suspect, who was not struck by gunfire, was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

No community members or officers were injured during the incident, the LAPD reported.

The investigation is underway, and there are no additional details at this time.
