Carport Fire Engulfs Vehicles, 2 Apartment Units in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Mar. 11 (KNN) — A fast-moving blaze ripped through a carport and engulfed two apartment units while threatening other nearby residents early Tuesday morning.

The Bakersfield and Kern County Fire Departments responded to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of Monterey Street, near the intersection with Alta Vista Drive at approximately 2 a.m.

The fire started in a carport adjacent to an apartment complex and quickly engulfed two units.

Due to the fire’s proximity, firefighters evacuated several nearby units as a precaution. The Bakersfield Police Department assisted with traffic control, while Hall Ambulance was dispatched to the scene to address any potential injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Bakersfield Fire Department’s Arson unit.
