Man Loses Leg in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 405 Freeway in Brentwood

BRENTWOOD, LOS ANGELES, July 2 (KNN) – A devastating early morning collision involving a semi-truck and multiple vehicles injured three people – one critically – on the southbound 405 Freeway just south of Getty Center Drive, marking the second serious crash along the corridor in just over a week.

The collision occurred around 2:15 a.m. when a semi-truck struck a disabled white Ford F-350 with a trailer, which was hauling another vehicle. Two individuals had exited the truck and were attempting to jump-start it using the vehicle on the trailer when the semi plowed into them. They were standing between the trailer and the truck at the time of the impact.

One of the victims suffered a traumatic right leg amputation. CHP officers applied a tourniquet on the scene. Two additional people were seriously injured. All three were transported under ALS (Advanced Life Support) protocols to local hospitals.

The collision blocked the slow lane and right shoulder, triggering major backups through the Sepulveda Pass during the early morning commute.

This latest crash comes just nine days after a similarly tragic incident on the same stretch of the southbound 405. In the early hours of June 23, LAPD Sergeant Shiou Deng was killed near Wilshire Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to render aid at a traffic collision.

Both crashes underscore the dangers facing drivers who become stranded on Los Angeles freeways, especially during overnight hours when visibility is reduced and high-speed traffic poses a serious threat to those outside their vehicles.
