North Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA: Firefighters were battling a blaze in a commercial building when the roof collapsed in the North Hollywood neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the 5:09 p.m. call of a fire on the 6800 block of North Troost Avenue where they found a one-story commercial building with fire showing. LAFD requested two additional task forces. Firefighters were battling the blaze in offensive mode at that point.
Around 5:25 p.m., the roof of the structure collapsed and LAFD ordered all firefighters out of the structure and an accountability report was conducted to make sure everyone was safely out of the building. The incident transitioned to fighting the heavy smoke and flames in defensive mode.
It wasn’t until 6:55 p.m. that LAFD announced knockdown of the fire. Over 80 firefighters were on the scene with no injuries reported. The crews aggressively worked to contain the fire to the building of origin and defended the adjacent buildings barely separated by a few feet, LAFD stated.
LAFD Arson was on the scene for investigation per protocol for a Greater Alarm fire. Crews remained on the scene throughout the night to keep fire watch and to extinguish any potential hot spots.
