Multiple Fire Departments Battle Massive Tire Yard Blaze

Montebello, Los Angeles County, CA: A tire yard burned with heavy smoke and fire present early Friday morning, June 17, in the city of Montebello.

Montebello Fire Department and Montebello Police Department received a call of a structure fire on the 1500 block of Bluff Road just before 1:00 a.m.

Upon arrival, flames were present with heavy smoke showing over 100 feet into the air.

Monterey Park and Los Angeles County Fire Departments also responded to the scene of the blaze. The fire reportedly started from a homeless encampment on the Rio Hondo Riverbed. The flames caught onto the tires in the tire yard igniting the massive blaze.

The city of Montebello reported on Twitter around 9:00 a.m. that heavy smoke was in the area but the fire was contained to the facility yard and was expected to burn for several hours.

No injuries were reported.
