Suspect in Custody After Firing at Officers and Hour Long Standoff

West Adams, Los Angeles, CA: Los Angeles Police Department Southwest Division officers were fired upon by a suspect who then barricaded himself inside an apartment complex early Thursday morning, June 23, 2022.

Officers initially made contact with the suspect when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop at 12:35 a.m. near the intersection of Exposition Boulevard and Somerset Drive in the West Adams neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

The suspect exited his vehicle and fired a single shot from a possible rifle at officers then fled into an apartment complex near the intersection. Officers were able to locate the suspect who had barricaded himself in the apartment unit.

After an hour long standoff, the suspect exited the apartment and was taken into custody. The weapon and suspect are both in custody.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
