Los Angeles Police Department Homicide detectives confirmed Wednesday morning, July 13, that a man was shot after being followed off the 105 Freeway by an unknown suspect in a dark-colored sedan.

The shooting occurred at the intersection of East Imperial Highway and South Central Avenue at approximately 11:39 p.m. July 12, in the Green Meadows neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The suspect then continued eastbound on Imperial Highway and out of view.

Video was reviewed from the scene and apparently there was a vehicle that was following close by as both vehicles exited the freeway and turned onto Imperial. The vehicle pulled up next to the victim, the suspect shot multiple times into the vehicle and then fled, according to Captain Adrian Gonzalez with LAPD South Bureau Homicide Division interviewed by Key News Network at the scene.

The solo occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Gonzalez said a pistol was used in the crime and between three to five shots were fired, but possibly more as the investigation continues.

LAPD is working with California Highway Patrol to gather more information regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Gonzalez is urging anyone with any information regarding this incident to call LAPD South Bureau Homicide at (323) 786-5100. Anonymous tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
