Woman Found Dead at Location of Rural Newton County Fire

Rural Newton County, MO: A woman who was found deceased after a mobile home fire on the 14000 block of Heron Road west of Neosho, died of smoke inhalation, according to Lieutenant Pike with Newton County Sheriff’s Office who updated Key News Network on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022. Pike said she was found by the door, and her dog perished in the fire. He also said the woman was 61 years old.

Neosho and Seneca Fire Departments responded to the call of the fire around 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, and discovered the deceased woman in her early 60’s at the location, according to Lieutenant Pike who spoke with Key News Network about the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal and Neosho Fire District. Pike said an autopsy is scheduled early next week to determine the cause of death of the woman. It is unknown at this time what caused the fire and more information will be available after the autopsy, Pike said.

Redings Mill Fire assisted at the scene. Newton County Sheriff’s Office deputies as well as Newton County ambulance responded to the location.
