Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County, CA: Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City fire departments responded to the Stoneyvale picnic area in Big Tujunga Canyon to assist Angeles National Forest in fighting a fire in medium to heavy brush that was reported around 3:34 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7.
Firefighters battled the approximate 1/2 acre fire from the ground as well as air. Law enforcement evacuated the location. LAFD reported that their ground companies were assigned to “structural triage” in the Vogel Flats area.
At approximately 4:33 p.m., Angeles National Forest reported that forest firefighters had stopped the fire at Stoneyvale picnic area at the original estimate of 1/2 acre in size.
Firefighters remained on the scene to strengthen containment lines around the fire’s perimeter and extinguish hot spots inside the fire perimeter, ANF said.
