Partygoer Purposely Struck, Killed by Suspect Vehicle During Dispute

Florence, Los Angeles, CA: A partygoer was purposely struck by a vehicle and killed in the area of an underground party early Sunday morning, Aug. 21, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers from LAPD Newton Division responded to a traffic collision with a man down in the 6200 block of Avalon Boulevard in the Florence community of Los Angeles. When officers arrived, they located the victim deceased at the scene.

Detective Jerry Gibson of LAPD Central Bureau Homicide interviewed at the location, said that around 2:30 a.m. there was an underground party on 62nd Street. A dispute occurred between partygoers and the suspect. During that dispute, the suspect drove over one of the partygoers purposely, then fled the scene.

The victim has not been identified, but Gibson believes he is a juvenile or young adult. He will be identified pending notification of family, said Gibson.

It has not been determined how many at the party witnessed the event. “There were a significant amount of individuals at the party,” said Gibson.

A white car at the scene is believed to have been involved in the traffic collision of the victim, said Gibson. There was a second vehicle that has yet to be determined as far as make and model although it is rumored to be a Maserati.

Gibson said the the suspects drove back and forth down the street a couple of times in an attempt to strike partygoers. The driver of the white car located at the scene had fled. Detectives are looking for the second vehicle.

There was no shooting involved, and northing indicates that this is a gang related incident at this time, according to Gibson.

Slat Security showed CC video footage at the scene of a fight that took place in a parking lot, then a Maserati struck the victim during the fight and fled the scene. The suspects were described as two Hispanics and are still outstanding at this time. Per CC footage shown, the victim was hit multiple times by the vehicle.

LAPD had closed the scene for a homicide investigation of the incident.
