Pepperdine University Honors Lives Lost on 9/11, Hosts Commemoration Ceremony ‘Honoring the Heroes’

Malibu, Los Angeles County, CA: Preparations were underway very early Sunday morning around 12:10 a.m. for a ceremony by Pepperdine University honoring the heroes of 9/11. The already installed Waves of Flags display honors those who lost their lives in the September 11 terror attacks 21 years ago at the Pentagon in Virginia, and the World Trade Center and Twin Towers in New York City.

According to the university’s website, Pepperdine will host Honoring the Heroes of 9/11, a commemoration ceremony on Monday, September 12, at 11 a.m. at Alumni Park, led by university Chancellor Sara Jackson.

Expect delays and signs were placed throughout the area for No Parking Zones from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. or vehicles will be towed.

Some people were seen arriving early Sunday to take photos around the impressive flag display which has been a yearly installation started by students in 2008, according to the Pepperdine site, with a flag for each innocent victim. That is nearly 3,000 flags placed, including a national flag for each foreign country that lost a citizen.

Waves of Flags is on display at Alumni Park on the Malibu campus until Friday, Sept. 23, 2022.
