The traffic collision occurred on the westbound 60 Freeway just west of the Greenwood Avenue overpass just before 12:02 a.m. The crash appeared to involve two vehicles with one vehicle catching fire.

A victim was located in the #1 lane unconscious and not breathing by California Highway Patrol. CHP East Los Angeles Division responded and is handling the investigation.

Montebello Fire Department was on the scene and extinguished the blazing auto fire.

A male victim involved in the collision was transported to a local area hospital by Monterey Park Fire paramedics in unknown condition.

CHP held all except one lane of the westbound 60 at the incident location for an unknown period of time.

Key News Network later interviewed East L.A. CHP Sgt. Herrarte at the scene regarding preliminary incident information. He said there were two vehicles involved, 2 parties, with one party standing outside his disabled vehicle in the #2 lane when a vehicle traveling in that same lane collided into the vehicle and person. Herrarte said the person was deceased at the scene and identified as a Hispanic male, approximately 30 years old.

The vehicle on fire was not the vehicle the person was standing next to on the freeway, said Herrarte. The driver of that vehicle was uninjured but shaken, and described by Herrarte as a Hispanic male, approximately 38 years old.

CHP is continuing the crash investigation.
