On Wednesday, Oct. 5, his widow Tania Owen, a retired Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy herself, announced that this is the last year the department will hold this memorial in Sgt. Owen’s honor due to the need for personnel on the streets as much as possible.
Tania stated she would carry on visiting the site where Sgt. Owen was murdered, which later became his memorial place, with or without the company of others.
Since his murder, the city of Lancaster has renamed its city park to Steve Owen Park in his memory.
