Sheared Hydrant Gushes Water from Apparent Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision

Due to water flowing into high voltage lines, LAFD requested the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to the location.

While waiting for DWP, firefighters opened three hydrants near the location to help lower the water pressure – one hydrant to the north and two hydrants to the south.

Once the water was no longer flowing into the high voltage lines, firefighters worked to shut off the water flow to the sheared hydrant.

Just before midnight, DWP arrived at the location and firefighters handed operations over to DWP.

The Los Angeles Police Department had Alameda closed both north and southbound while crews worked in the area.

It is currently unknown how long it took DWP to turn off the gushing hydrant.
