Stolen Big Rig Cab Erupts into Flames at End of Pursuit

Castaic, Los Angeles County, CA: California Highway Patrol officers chased a stolen big rig cab in a slow speed pursuit from the Kern County area to the Castaic community of Los Angeles County, ultimately stopping north of Santa Clarita after the tractor caught fire.

The chase began with the Kern Country Sheriff’s Office and eventually involved Newhall area CHP officers who deployed multiple spike strips across lanes of southbound Interstate 5.

After losing a tire to a successful spike strip deployment, the rig came to a halt with flames erupting from the engine compartment and front right wheel well.

The suspect surrendered to officers in the middle of Interstate 5 north of Lake Hughes Road, west of Ridge Route Road.
